However this is one of a few scientific investigations as sharks keep so many other interesting features and extraordinary abilities that were not investigated by scientists but are discovered day by day.

The word "pseudoscience" comes from the Greek meaning "science" and "false". The vocabulary defines "pseudoscience” as the activity that imitates science but that is not science by its essence.

Pseudoscience imitates the real science building laboratories and centres of investigation. The pseudo-scientists even put experiments and publish the results of the experiments but only when they prove and don’t contradict the main principles of the pseudoscience.

Phrenology

Phrenology is the pseudoscience about the connection between the psyche of the person and the structure of his/her skull surface. The creator of this pseudoscience is considered to be the Austrian doctor Gaal. He said that all psychological qualities situated in the hemispheres of the brain cause the increase of the certain part of the brain and this causes the tumour in the certain area of the skull. And if some parts of the brain are not developed enough, the skull has the hollows.

This science was especially famous in the first part of the 19th century. But the development of neurophysiology showed incompetence of this theory and the society lost the interest to phrenology gradually. In reality the mental specialities of people don't depend on the structure of the brain and the form of the skull doesn't correspond to the form of the brain.

There were attempts to protect this science saying it is one of the official sciences that have the right to be included into the list of official sciences. All so called scientific arguments to support this theory can't be verified in practice and through the scientific methods. In fact scientists say that Dianetics is one more mystical science into which it is possible either to believe or not but it doesn't have any scientific background.

Phrenology was favourable for the development of psychology and psychiatry.
